Geocaching can provide many special moments for those who go to seek them. From breathtaking locations to cherished memories with friends and loved ones, we love to highlight the amazing caches that make these moments happen.
We also love to highlight the… other caches out there. You know the ones: the silly, tongue-in-cheek, fascinatingly-gross geocaches that give us a good chuckle. Thanks to the geocache owners who come up with these crazy concoctions, these geocaches often linger in our memories long after the find.
Take the plunge with us as we explore the good, the bad, and the funky with our Geocache of the Week: Royal Flush!
It would be hard to claim that geocachers aren’t resourceful. The geocaching community is known to remove trash during Cache In Trash Out (CITO)® Events. But when geocacher Bug Finders came across an abandoned toilet off of a service road, he decided to repurpose it for something more… glamorous.
Now, geocachers come from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the fanciest latrine out there: the golden toilet of GC5R93J!
You’ll begin your journey from the south service road; whether rain or shine, spotting the geocache should be easy, as it tends to stick out from its surroundings. There are really only a couple places to search, so the most difficult part will be figuring out how to touch the geocache as little as possible!
Be sure to check every nook and cranny, as you might discover a fun easter egg left by other geocachers.
After a quick search, the cache container will soon be in hand! You’ll notice that it blends in well with the rest of its surroundings.
Be sure to add your name to the long list of geocachers who have been brave enough to make this find before you. You might even take a celebratory picture with the golden throne—if you dare!
You did it! Now that you’ve made the short trek and searched for the unthinkable, you can leave Royal Flush in its golden resting spot, with only the memory of your find lingering for years to come.
We’ll leave you with one final item for thought, geocachers. At the end of the day, it’s the geocaches like this that remind us: one man’s trash is a geocacher’s treasure.
