New to geocaching?—check out these tutorials!

Have you recently discovered geocaching? Or are you rejoining the hobby after some time away?

We know that there’s a lot of information to absorb when it comes to finding a geocache. So we’ve rounded up some of our best intro to geocaching tutorial videos to help you get started.

Check out our 5 handy-dandy tutorials on how to start geocaching, and stay tuned for more tutorials in the future!

1. What is geocaching, anyway?

In short, geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt—and when we say world, we mean the whole world! The quickest way to get started is to download the free Geocaching® app and look for caches near you!

2. I’ve downloaded the app—now what?

Great, you’re one step closer to finding a geocache! Now is a good time to review the next steps so you know what to expect. Don’t worry if you don’t find it the first few tries. Practice makes perfect!

3. What does a geocache look like?

Okay, so you’ve followed all the steps but are still stumped about what you should be looking for. Here are just a few examples of what a geocache may look like and just how big (or small) the container may be! Remember that the container may be well-camouflaged for an extra challenge.

4. I’m having trouble finding the cache—help!

If you’re still having trouble, make sure you’ve checked all these boxes during your hunt. Recent finds mean the cache is likely still there—it might even be right under your nose!

5. I found it! What’s next?

Woohoo, you found the cache! The next steps are as simple as 1, 2, 3. Just make sure the cache is left exactly where you found it so the next geocacher can enjoy the search!

Every geocacher starts in the same place, with 0 finds. That first cache may seem impossible, but we promise it gets easier with every find!

Stay tuned for more tutorials on tools of the trade, using the app, and more. In the meantime, check out the geocaching Help Center if you have any questions, and let us know which tutorials you’d like to see next!

Good luck, and happy geocaching!
