Do you like lakes? — plitvice lakes (GC1FNKR) — Geocache der Woche!

15. Mai 2015 // 0 Kommentare

Absolutely gorgeous! Photo by geocacher Brainburned Geocache Name: plitvice lakes (GC1FNKR) Difficulty/Terrain Rating: 2/1.5 Why this is the Geocache of the Week: Beautiful places like these don't form overnight. It takes thousands of years of geologic processes for beauty to evolve out of rocks and water. While photos may enable you to appreciate the vibrant colors and incredible scenery, an EarthCache like this one gives you an appreciation for the processes behind the beauty by teaching you about the sequences that took place to form it. What geocachers have to say: “We had tour around beautiful lakes. Whole day we walked around the park. Lots of pictures were taken and beutiful places were seen. Thanks for the earth.” – Legsa^ “Its so beautiful there and the sun was shining the whole day! We had a very nice time here! TFTC” – Schesn “Daily trip together with DieterRoland from Drvar – Bihac – Plitvice Lakes. Perfect weather, visiting historical sites, beautiful landscape and an impressive scenery here in the National park. TFTC!” – Steveeeee Photos: This view is ok, I guess. Announcing the April 2015 – Geocacher des Monats

14. Mai 2015 // 0 Kommentare

The April 2015 nominees for the celebrated Geocacher of the Month award run the gamut of what it means to be a legendary geocacher. For Marchand de cailloux, it means crafting intricate, clever, beautiful wood caches. For Zugführer, it means organizing Cache-Events that repeatedly draw dozens of old and new geocachers alike. For hoosiersunshine & FailedApparatus it means inventing a highly popular local geocaching trivia night complete with customized trophy. The featured Geocacher of the Month is named by a panel at Geocaching HQ after reviewing community input and blog comments. It's a tough decision, given the combined contributions of these folks to the geocaching community as a whole. All the nominees will receive special prize packages from Geocaching HQ, but only one will receive the elusive Geocacher of the Month Geocoin. The earned, never for sale, Geocacher of the Month Geocoin. After tallying the sentiment and reading the comments, hoosiersunshine & FailedApparatus have been officially named the featured Geocachers of the Month for April 2015. ‘Caching team hooserisunshine and FailedApparatus have made a big impression on the the geocaching community in North and South Carolina with their regular geocaching trivia events, ‘It's All Just Trivial!' Though the geocaching trivia nights were spawned as a way to spice up regular Cache-Events, they've since become an institution. The winning team at an ‘It's All Just Trivial' event take home medals and sometimes a trophy – both of which were created by hoosiersunshine and FailedApparatus. Geocacher Beth Andrews says, “Hands down… my vote is for Hoosiersunshine and FailedApparatus. Not just for the great and wonderful things they have done with geocaching trivia around the whole South East…., but with geocaching as a whole. From fun hides to hair pulling puzzle caches to just being great people. I'm honored they are part of my geocaching family and no two people deserve this more than those two.” Echoing her sentiments, Matt Norris says, “Hoosiersunshine and Failedapparatus are the best nominees I could think of for this! Anyone who has ever been to an “It's All Just Trivial” event knows that this would be incredibly well deserved. Those who have not can't even imagine what those two have put into these events! Not only fun trivia, but everything from fully stocked caches, to unactivated geocoins and everything in between as prizes to every person who attends. And every person who wins gets a real gold medal! They bring fun geocaching events to a new level that I have never seen. Amazing people bringing fun not only to SC and NC, but they've traveled to host these events in GA, FL and VA too!” Thank you to all the April 2015 Geocacher of the Month nominees for your tireless efforts to bring joy to other geocachers. Three cheers for legendary geocachers! Know an outstanding geocacher who should be recognized? Nominate them for next month's award! [...]

Between a rock and…more rocks. — Pit Stop (GC5RM5D) — Geocache der Woche

8. Mai 2015 // 0 Kommentare

Yahtzee! Geocache Name: Pit Stop (GC5RM5D) Difficulty/Terrain Rating: 2.5/2 Why this is the Geocache of the Week: This geocache is a perfect example of being extremely creative, while staying within the guidelines. The guidelines state that geocachers must not dig when finding or placing a geocache—however, like with this geocache, piling rocks on top of the geocache provides the same feel as a buried cache, without needing a shovel. What geocachers have to say: “Wow another GREAT cache from the CO!!! Dude you guys ROCK!!! Thanks for another creative cache. Keep up the great work!” – I C IT “Awesome set up!, this one took some werk by the CO to get this made and installed, a nickname for this one should be “patience” haha, that's what it takes to get er' done. great cache and of coarse another FAV point!, will definitely recommend to others. Thanks for a fun well done cache!!!” – bajatym “Another really nice job on this cache! A favorite point for certain. THX 4 the fun!” – Smoochersmom What the geocache hider, Adam_710, has to say: Well i have always liked the trickier geocaches and wanted to build something i haven't seen.. Ive always grown up around cars and a bottle jack was the first thing that came to mind, so i wanted to build around that. The construction from the mental design, to the physical product took about two weeks..the hardest part was the drawing and concepts. The physical build took two days. Honesty i love getting the favorite points for these hides, thats what makes me want to keep coming up with better geocaches! The reactions are great to the pitstop, it just takes a lot of turning lol Honestly its all for [geocachers]! I really enjoy reading the comments of the caches and there thoughts about how it was conctructed. Don't forget to look for the ones are out there and ones that are coming out soon Photos: The geocache uncovered. Where the logbook hides Between a rock and more rocks. History and beauty in one spot — SS: Lusitania (GC2D9WC) — Geocache der Woche

1. Mai 2015 // 0 Kommentare

Just incredible! Photo by geocacher Suikerbossies Geocache Name: SS: Lusitania (GC2D9WC) Difficulty/Terrain Rating: 1.5/2 Why this is the Geocache of the Week: Geocaching can bring us to beautiful places, as well as teach us about the history of an area—this geocache does both. Ground zero gives you sweeping views of the Cape of Good Hope. You can see the crystalline blue water and sandy beaches for miles. By reading the geocache's description, you'll also learn about the history of this area—a tragic shipwreck took place just off shore. What geocachers have to say: “Easily found while visiting the Cape. Very nice hide, very very nice spot!” – AlteGurke “While a great tour we found this Cache together with xhanmanx! Great spot, thanks a lot for hiding! Greetings from Germany!!!” – LÖ8277 “Had a few trips up and down the stairs until I found the right direction to go. This is a great area for sightseeing. I went to Cape Horn last year and now I've been to the Cape of Good Hope. Cool! Thanks for putting a cache here.” – kayst Photos: Scenery + history. Nominate the April 2015 Geocacher of the Month

30. April 2015 // 0 Kommentare

This month's nominees for the very special Geocacher of the Month award take the geocaching cake for their contributions to the game we love. Among them are a geocaching event organizer extraordinaire, the founders of a popular geocaching trivia series, and a maker of intricate and clever wooden caches. The earned, never for sale, Geocacher of the Month Geocoin. The decision won't be easy. Luckily, we have you to help. Post your vote below and let us know who you think should take home the earned, never for sale, Geocacher of the Month Geocoin (at left). March 2015 Geocacher of the Month, Schlurie Although all the nominees will receive prizes, the featured Geocacher of the Month will receive the exclusive special edition Geocoin, a Geocacher of the Month hat and a profile icon. They'll also receive a certificate that recognizes their contributions, signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com. Schlurie was the March 2015 Geocacher of the Month. Of Schlurie, Geo-Tootles says, “There are lots of cachers outside in the woods, searching for caches, for great and for special moments. But without having creative owners these experiences would be reduced to a minimum. Schlurie spent months of crafting new hides, this time with an incredible range of different bird-houses to let cachers smile and especially children laugh.” Now it's your turn to decide which geocacher should be further recognized. Read the profiles of this month's three nominees, and write a supportive comment below this post describing why you think this person should be recognized. A panel from Geocaching HQ will then use your comments to help guide the decision of which geocacher is awarded the Geocacher of the Month honor. Here are your nominees for April 2015 Geocacher of the Month. And the March 2015 Geocacher of the Month is…

16. April 2015 // 0 Kommentare

The time has come. Earlier this month, three outstanding geocachers were nominated for March 2015's Geocacher of the Month award. A winner has been chosen, but first, let's take a look at the nominees. Schlurie is famous in Rheinland-Pfalz for creating fun and inspiring geocache hides. His particular specialty is birdhouse caches, which have generated a lot of “WOW” moments for geocachers over the years. Fivebales is a geocaching team from Idaho, whose behind-the-scenes work for an amazing annual Mega Event and their local geocaching organization has gone a long way in strengthening the local geocaching community. chuck80196 is always willing to help another geocacher out, and if you know him he is probably number one on your PAF (Phone A Friend) list. He has over 880 FTFs (first-t0-finds) and of late holds back to allow others the chance to get their first FTF…especially if he has already gotten his geocache for the day. Although it's tough, there has to be a winner. Say congratulations to the March 2015 Geocacher of the Month, Schlurie! Our March 2015 Geocacher of the Month is based in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. Schlurie sets an incredible example as a geocacher maker, maintainer, and finder. His contributions to the local geocaching community are best described by local geocachers, like Geo-Tootles, who sing his praises: “There are lots of cachers outside in the woods, searching for caches, for great and for special moments. But without having creative owners these experiences would be reduced to a minimum. Schlurie spent months of crafting new hides, this time with an incredible range of different bird-houses to let cachers smile and especially children laugh. Next to that he had to organize everything else with the local forestry commision office to determine the spots for placing the hides. All that time he could have spent for searching caches by himself, but statistic seem not important for him, much more important is giving other cachers a great time during their trips. Being that unselfish is the reason for my wholehearted vote. And even if he will not be decorated with this little award … every single cacher in our area will know exactly that he will look forward to the next Schlurie-caches.” Schlurie's birdhouse geocaches have garnered a lot of attention (and favorite points) from geocachers far and wide. One needs only to read the last few logs on his cache, “VHT 11 schlüsselfertiges Mehrfamilienhaus,” to get a sense of how carefully crafted his hides are. This particular cache earned 75 favorite points in less than two months. As a geocache finder, Schlurie goes to great lengths — and heights — to sign a logbook. He's found a whopping 440 T5 (terrain 5) geocaches. In recognition of his contributions to geocaching, Schlurie will receive a prize package from Geocaching HQ, which includes the earned, never-for-sale, Geocacher of the Month geocoin. Send your congratulations to Schlurie! The earned, never for sale, Geocacher of the Month Geocoin. If you know an outstanding geocacher who should be considered for the honor next month, simply fill out this webform. You'll need to include the following information: Your name, the name of your nominee, their username A picture of the nominee Description (200 or more words) explaining why he or she deserves to be the Featured Geocacher of the Month Please inform your nominee that you have submitted them for the award. Once Geocaching HQ has received the nominations, we will choose the top candidates and post them on the blog. You will then get a chance to champion your favorite. Our goal is to involve the entire geocaching community in this process so that we might learn from each other. [...]

If you build it, they will cache. — “1988 Field of Dreams” (GC359Z4) — Geocache der Woche

10. April 2015 // 0 Kommentare

If you build it, they will cache. Photo by geocacher RVtrvlkids Geocache Name: “1988 Field of Dreams” (GC359Z4) Difficulty/Terrain Rating: 1.5/1.5 Why this is the Geocache of the Week: There are quite a few geocaches hidden at movie sets around the world, including the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. To celebrate the beginning of the 2015 Major League Baseball season in the United States, this geocache takes us to a pretty famous place in baseball history. If you've seen the 1988 film “Field of Dreams”, you'll most likely recognize exactly where this geocache is. What geocachers have to say: “I ended up completely altering my original plans just to visit here. I had originally planned to take 380 down to Cedar Rapids and then catch 80 out of Iowa. Then I remembered this site and decided to see where it was. Turns out, it wasn't too far off the route I was already on. So I just HAD to detour and check it out. Got here early in the morning. What a cool place! The cache took me way longer to find than it really should have, but I got it. Then I wandered down to the house and ballfield. Looks a lot different in winter than it did in the movie. I took the time to wander around and snap some photos and of course, walk the bases. Based on the footprints in the snow, I'm not the only one to do so recently. It is so cool that they preserved this place exactly how it appeared in the movie. How cool is that? I will have to return here some day when the field isn't partially covered in snow and the corn is actually up. Thanks for bringing me to this awesome location today!” – Tsmola “This was a focus cache, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have seen this movie a few times, and seeing the movie set was thrilling! Walked around the bases, and wandered out into the corn field was exciting! Thanks so much for placing this cache, as I wouldn't have never seen this place without it.” – outsiders2 “Another must visit cache on our 7 day road trip with outsiders2 and Dr. House. We all remember watching the movie probably more than a few times. Took some time out of the schedule and became tourists and take many photos and even bought a few souvenirs. TFTC” – DDTKR What the geocache owner, The-DuHawks, have to say: On the favorite points and positive logs: “I think it is wonderful. It is a special place for me. In the final scene of the movie, when all the cars were driving, with their lights on, to the Field, my parents, who were in their 70's, were driving one of the cars. I find it unbelievable that, even after 25 years, there are 1,000's of people visiting the Field of Dreams every year.” Photos: Don't be afraid to come out and get a few hits in. Häufig Gestellte Fragen: Nachrichten-Center Beta

8. April 2015 // 0 Kommentare

Worauf wartest Du also noch? [...]
