New Year's Eve is an opportunity to celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of the next. While end-of-year traditions come in many shapes and sizes, this year you can start a new tradition by hosting an event with your geocaching buddies. To get us off to a good start, we're announcing two new souvenirs: one to celebrate your last cache of 2017 and one to celebrate your first cache of 2018! Earning the souvenirs is easy: Find a geocache or attend an event on December 31, 2017 to earn the Last Cache of 2017 souvenir. Find a geocache or attend an event on January 1, 2018 to earn the First Cache of 2018 souvenir. Without further ado, here are five easy steps to hosting a great New Year's Eve geocaching bash! Step 1: Choose a theme Like creating a GIFF film, all great Event Caches start out with a theme. We've brainstormed a few ideas to get you inspired: Throw a “geocaching resolutions” party. Have everyone choose a geocaching resolution to complete in 2018 (“Complete my Difficulty/Terrain grid,” “Hide my first cache,” or “Invite someone new to geocaching”). Bonus points if everyone meets again at the end of the year to see who followed through with their resolutions! Keep things “Hygge.” Pronounced hue-guh, the Danish word Hygge is the state of being warm, cozy, or charming. Plan a daytime event on January 1 at a coffee shop or cafe so geocachers can warm up (or cool down) after finding their first geocache(s) of the year. Step 2: Select the date and time of your event This is an easy one: plan your event for December 31 or January 1 so it qualifies for a souvenir. When selecting a time, remember some guests may bring young kids, so you may want to plan your event earlier on New Year's Eve or even schedule a daytime event on January 1. Reminder: The geocaching guidelines prohibit event stacking. To avoid this, Event Caches must be: Held at different times Organized by different geocachers Have a minimum duration of 30 minutes, and Take place at different locations than other events. Check out the geocaching guidelines for more information. Step 3: Find a venue You can host Event Caches anywhere available to the public—a restaurant, park, or even your house. Be sure to find a place that has enough space for activities! Don't forget to provide a description of your event in the Cache Details. This is a great place to explain any limitations with the venue such as whether it's dog friendly. You can also add a reminder here to dress warm for an outdoor event. Step 4: Plan fun and engaging activities A great way to make your event fun for all is to schedule activities to help your guests meet each other. Here are four ideas to get you started: Do a polar plunge. There's no cooler way to bond with fellow geocachers than by jumping into freezing water together at the height of winter! For lucky geocachers in the Southern Hemisphere, host a picnic on the beach and enjoy the warmth of summer. Create a geocaching bucket list. As a group, make a bucket list of geocaches you want to find in 2018. Make plans throughout the year to find them together! Play geocaching bingo. Create a bingo card based on geocaching achievements (“Earned a new country souvenir” or “Found more than 100 geocaches”). Guests must find other geocachers at the event who have completed the achievements to fill in their board. Bake a lucky trackable into a cake. In Greece, coins are baked into bread or cake, and whoever finds the coin has good luck for the entire year! Give your guests the gift of geocaching luck by hiding a trackable in the dessert. Make sure to mention this to them before they take a bite! Step 5: Invite friends, new and old! Now that you're feeling inspired, create a new event on Geocaching.com. Remember, events must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event date. Once it has been published, share the GC code with your local geocaching organization. Whether you're already a well-established social butterfly or a first-time attendee, geocaching events are a great way to meet new people who share your love for geocaching. Mystery GC6KP0K by Team Davidsson Difficulty: 2 Terrain: 5 Location: Örebro, Sweden N 59° 15.716 E 015° 11.762 A historic building? Great views of the city? Daring feats of adventure? This geocache has it all! Welcome to Örebro, the seventh largest city in Sweden. Known for shoe manufacturing and biscuit making, Örebro is also the site of multiple buildings dating back to Renaissance times. The cache is located in Örebro's southern water tower, which provided water for the city from 1887 until 1958 when it was replaced by a mushroom-shaped tower. Although no longer active, it provides the perfect setting for this T5 Mystery Cache. Where is the cache, you ask? To find out, you'll have to strap on a harness and get ready for a thrilling adventure. The quest begins at the bottom of the 43 meter (141 foot) tall tower. A stairway leads up the side of the structure to a door that only geocachers can open. From there, about halfway up the tower, you must rappel through a hole down two stories until you find a clue. The clue leads you out a window, where you'll have to rappel once again down the side of the building to more clues that lead to the final location. The cache owners, Team Davidsson, said their goal was simple: create a cache that offers “an interesting and historical place, some adrenaline, a small challenge to arrange the clues, a great place to have coffee, and a great opportunity to interact with new and old friends.” According to the 225 logs and 187 Favorite points, they succeeded in their mission. Was wir aber sicher wissen ist, dass es Geocaching ohne das Universum, ohne Dich und ohne engagierte Geocacher, die Geocaches gestalten und verstecken, nicht gäbe. Deshalb haben wir der überarbeiteten Geocaching.com Übersichtsseite mehrere Funktionen hinzugefügt, um die Wartung eines Geocaches zu erleichtern und das Besitzen eines Geocaches reizvoller zu machen. Früher in diesem Jahr Diesen September haben wir Cache-Owner-Logs zum Feed der letzten Aktivitäten hinzugefügt. Seit diesem Update können Cache-Owner im Feed Logs und Fotos von anderen Geocachern sehen, die Caches dieses Owners geloggt haben. Und noch besser: erstmals kannst Du auch sehen, wenn einer Deiner Caches einen Favoritenpunkt bekommt. Diese Information war früher nirgends sichtbar. Letzte Neuigkeiten Erst kürzlich haben wir ein neues Wartungstool zur Übersichtsseite hinzugefügt. Wenn einer oder mehrere Deiner Geocaches Probleme haben, siehst Du als Owner nun ein Symbol oben in Deinem Dashboard. Es kann sein, dass Dein Geocache ein volles oder ein nasses Logbuch hat, dass das Versteck geändert werden muss oder der Cachecontainer fehlt oder beschädigt ist. Das Owner Wartungstool zeigt wartungsbedürftige Geocaches an. Dies basiert auf einem Algorithmus, mit dem wir einen verborgenen Gesundheitspunktestand errechnen. ¿Qué tamaño tiene el universo? ¿Por qué estamos aquí? ¿Qué sería del geocaching sin los propietarios de los cachés? Son preguntas para las que no tenemos respuesta. Lo que sí sabemos es que no existiría el geocaching sin el universo, sin tí, y sin los propietarios que crean y esconden los geocachés. Por eso, hemos añadido algunas características al actualizar el Panel de Control que permiten mantener un caché de forma más fácil y que hacen que ser el propietario de uno sea más placentero. A principios de este año En Septiembre añadimos los registros en los cachés propios a las noticias del Panel de Control. Con esta actualización, los propietarios de los cachés pueden ver los registros y fotografías que envían los geocachers a sus cachés. Y lo que es aún mejor, por primera vez pueden ver cuándo reciben un punto Favorito. Anteriormente, esta información no estaba disponible. Lo más nuevo Acabamos de añadir una nueva herramienta de mantenimiento del propietario al Panel de Control. Si uno o más de sus geocachés tienen algún problema, los propietarios verán un widget en la parte de arriba de su Panel de Control. El problema del caché puede ser un libro de registro lleno o húmedo, un cambio de ubicación, o un contenedor extraviado o roto. La herramienta de mantenimiento del propietario muestra los cachés que necesitan alguna actuación basándose en un algoritmo que hemos creado para calcular una Puntuación de Salud. Mais une chose dont nous sommes sûrs, c'est que le géocaching n'existerait pas sans l'univers, sans vous, et sans ces geocacheurs chevronnés qui créent et posent les caches. Voilà pourquoi nous avons doté la toute dernière version du Tableau de bord de geocaching.com de plusieurs nouvelles fonctionnalités qui devraient faciliter la maintenance des caches, et rendre le rôle d'un propriétaire de cache plus agréable encore ! Plus tôt cette année En Septembre, nous avons ajouté les logs des propriétaires des caches sur la page Activité Récente du Tableau de bord. Grâce à cette mise à jour, les propriétaires de caches peuvent voir les logs et les photos que les géocacheurs publient sur leurs caches.
