Geocache of the Week Flashback Edition: Table Top Trove (GCMYYZ)

As we look back on twenty years of geocaching history, we decided to revisit some of our favorite Geocaches of the Week from years past.

This week we’re setting our time machines to December 2011 when we awarded the honor of Geocache of the Week to Table Top Trove (GCMYYZ). Even in 2011 this cache had already made quite a name for itself as one of the most visited caches in South Africa. Almost 9 years later, the cache continues to impress with over 100 Favorite points and more than 2000 finds. This cache also stands out from the crowd because of how long it has been in the game. This past February marked 15 years since it was placed!

To find this notable cache, you’ll have to reach the summit of Table Mountain, one of the most famous landmarks and tourist attractions in Cape Town. A stunning view awaits visitors at the top of the mountain. While standing on the rocky top of the mountain, perhaps amidst some low-level clouds, visitors have almost a bird’s-eye view of Cape Town and Table Bay below.

If hiking to the top of a mountain doesn’t appeal to you, don’t let that stop you from getting this smiley. Past finders of this cache have also reached the top of the mountain via cable car. At the top of the mountain, let your app or GPS device guide you to the coordinates of the cache. A feeling of achievement often accompanies signing a logbook, but when you sign a logbook on top of a mountain over 3000 feet tall (over 1000 meters), you’re likely to feel down-right triumphant.
